100% liquid-to-liquid fermentation for sustainable bulk chemicals

Project description

While bio-manufacturing is well established for pharmaceuticals and other precision chemicals, it can’t compete with the economy of scale of petrochemistry for lower margin bulk chemicals. Current fermentations burn sugars to meet the cell’s energy needs, inevitably losing a large portion of the substrate as CO2 resulting in low yields. We have developed a fermentation process that converts substrates fully into liquid products, with no losses to off-gas. In doing so we pave the way for competitive fermentation-based manufacturing, while cutting greenhouse gas emissions and reducing our dependence on fossil resources.
