Project description

Pancreatic cancer (PC) is estimated to be the 3rd leading cause of cancer deaths by 2025, with a 5-year survival rate of less than 10 %. Unfortunately, most PC cases are diagnosed at late stage, which makes curative treatment impossible.  In contrast, patients with localized tumors have a 5-year survival rate up to 54 % after curative resection. However, difficulties in early diagnosis leads to high mortality. Our group has developed a simple blood-based diagnostic test for PC. The test enables differentiation between PC patients and patients with benign pancreatic disease, e.g. chronic pancreatitis. In addition, our test also has potential as a minimal invasive screening tool for patients at moderate to high risk of developing PC.
