Project description

When a pacemaker is about to run out of battery, the patient undergoes replacement surgery. Every intervention and surgery come with clinical risk, e.g. infection risk 6 times higher than the first surgery. HEARTVEST makes perpetually self-powered intracardiac leadless pacemakers possible. With our technology, which replaces the battery in the pacemaker, the movement of the heart is turned into electrical energy. The pacemaker, therefore, stays powered constantly. This unique solution provides better quality of life for the patients with improved peace of mind, and it eliminates redundant replacement surgeries with all the associated risks. HEARTVEST, furthermore, yields lower long-term costs and more efficient patient care for healthcare. We have developed intracardiac power module that harvests energy sufficient for self-powering leadless pacemakers. Within this project, we bring the technology from the lab into a societal and commercial success via technology development, plan regulatory strategy, partnership, and commercial approach.
