MID-TERM Evaluation of SPARK Denmark

final report

SPARK Denmark is offered in collaboration between five Danish universities and funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The program aims to boost the commercialization of early‑stage life science projects at universities through a mix of funding, training, and mentoring.

The SPARK concept is used in several countries anround the world. It was originally developed at Stanford University. A key feature of the SPARK model is its group‑mentoring sessions, where researchers pitch their projects to experienced professionals from the life science ecosystem.

The Mid-Term evaluation focuses on SPARK Denmark’s value creation, its role within the broader life science ecosystem, and the cross‑university collaboration behind the program.

Among other findings, it shows that the Stanford model, with it's mentoring, training and funding has effectively created momentum, maturation and clarity. For a number of the participating projects this have led to company creation as well as significant additional funding.

The mid‑term evaluation of SPARK Denmark program was carried out by IRIS GROUP.,
